Getting to Cinque Terre
by boat and train is preferred...
Getting to Cinque Terre can be tricky, but if you are already in Italy and want to take a side trip to see this wonderful area, take the train! It's relaxing and you'll get the opportunity to see some beautiful countryside.
If you must travel by car, be aware that there are no roads that go directly into each village of Cinque Terre. You will have to park outside of each town and walk in. Not strenuous, but the train is a much more enjoyable way to get to the five villages.
There is daily parking is available in Riomaggiore and Monterosso.
Another fun way to get to Cinque Terre is by boat. This is a wonderful way to see the coast line and marvel at the tiny villages and hamlets that are perched practically on the edge of nothing overlooking the Ligurian sea. You can take a boat from La Spezia and other surrounding coastal cities.
Out of La Spezia, you can pick up a boat from the Consorzio Marittimo Turistico. The consortium owns a fleet of 16 boats, and travel to other cities along the Ligurian coast in addition to the Cinque Terre.
